Art lovers and culture enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the upcoming solo exhibition, “Beyond the Last Miles”, by the renowned Chinese contemporary artist Zhang Zhanzhan. This exhibition, presented in collaboration with ArtDepot, will be hosted at RCB Galleria 2, on the second floor of River City Bangkok, from 6 July to 25 August 2024.
Zhang Zhanzhan, known for his exploration of solitude and human resilience, brings his deeply personal artistic vision to Bangkok for the first time. His work, a blend of paintings and sculptures, captures the essence of life's solitary journey, reflecting moments of warmth, longing, hope and resilience. Each piece is a testament to Zhang’s ability to capture complex emotions in a simple yet profound manner.
Curated by Serena Zhao, the founder of ArtDepot, alongside River City Bangkok's exhibition team, “Beyond the Last Miles” features both familiar and new work by Zhang. The exhibition showcases his unique artistic language, which combines his signature cartoon style with classical influences in composition, colour and lighting. Zhang’s approach is both minimalistic and emotionally rich, using concise artistic language to portray deep feelings and reflections.
Zhang’s work often delves into themes of loneliness and introspection, using a symbolic red and black colour palette and endearing yet muted animal imagery. Born in Chongli, China, in 1982 and a graduate of Nanjing University of the Arts, Zhang has consistently communicated the depth of human solitude and the silent strength it harbours.
“Beyond the Last Miles” invites visitors to experience an emotional journey that resonates with their own lives, making solitude feel warmer and more profound. This exhibition offers an opportunity for all to engage with Zhang Zhanzhan’s powerful artistic expressions.
